The Biz Wiz, Annette Fazio  Nov. 11, 2009

Why bother going through all those pesky details of starting your own business? Do you think you are you too old or too young to start your own business?

What's in it for you?

Is having a web site enough

Surfing the Web or sticking my hand in a bear trap? I'll take the bear trap; that could be a clue that I don't enjoy "surfing the Web" but finding information such as a restaurant menu, a phone number of an establishment or who sells what I'm looking for, is an entirely different story.

Thoughts from “The Restaurant Diva”

With all the information out there about business, have you ever really looked at the strong and growing segment of women in business? Have you secretly harbored thoughts of owning your own business, restaurant or any other business in the hospitality industry?

Evaluating worker productivity

I usually dislike the oversized doses of doom and gloom the media piles up on us, but the reality is that, for one reason or another, there are many people out of work. One would think that would cause concern or at least a small heads-up for the individuals who still have a job and don't particularly feel like producing their fair share of work.

Pros can help your enterprise grow

Increasing business is twofold: Find the business and be able to deliver the goods. Have you ever considered going to an outside source for help? There are companies that will help you find leads, generate more leads, market your business and actually do the sales for you.

Compassion is at the heart of great customer service

Customer service doesn't usually come to mind when you think of hospitals, doctors and/or technicians. They call it bedside manner but in the long run, it's the same thing. You/we are the customers and hospital workers are taking care of our needs, (the service part). When it's done with heart they not only serve you and nurture your spirit but help you feel safe.

Be sure to feed your mind

Feeding your mind is no different than ordering off a menu in a restaurant. The appetizer is just enough to get you interested. The entree is the main course — good solid information that holds your attention and sparks the appetite for regular visits for more. The dessert is the fun part — you can live without it but it sure makes the entire experience (life) a heck of a lot better.

You may need a needs analysis

It doesn't matter if you are a small business owner just starting out or have been in business for years, knowing your business inside and out is an absolute essential to profit. Notice I didn't say to survive, although in some cases that could be true. But when it comes to your bottom line, knowing what and how your employees or staff do the job they have been hired to do is critical to your bottom line.
